Abstract: The impact of the sampled grating in a distributed Bragg reflector laser on the tuning range, output power, and side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) are investigated in detail.Design criteria are proposed, and the results are applied practically. The reflection spectrum of the sampled grating in the device is consistent with our design and a 30nm quasi-continuous-wave tuning range with SMSR>30dB is achieved.
